Pinching Your Tomatoes

If you want to get a lot more tomatoes out of your vegetable garden this summer, try pinching them! Everyone wants a nice luscious fruit of a tomato, but if you leave them to their natural tendencies, your tomato plants will put the majority of their energy into making more leaves and not the tomato fruit that you want.

There is a technique to prevent this from happening, and that is to pinch off newly budding branches that start between the main branch and the side branches. They will start out as tiny buds and eventually form more complex branching structures if you don’t pinch them off. By pinching them off, your plants will then have nowhere to grow but straight up. The plant and fruits will actually receive more sunlight and you’ll be rewarded with a much bigger yield of larger tomatoes in late summer. Review the video to learn more.
